Clubhouse

The clubhouse was built in 1930 in mock Tudor style to enable easy conversion into a large country house in case the golf club failed! It has marvellous aspects all round and a particularly fine view of the Downs to the South.

Completely in keeping with the surrounding countryside, the clubhouse is very well appointed and comfortable. Since construction, it has changed very little other than by extensions added to provide new facilities and extra space, so internally it retains most of its traditional charm and presents an ideal environment in which to relax and enjoy convivial company and fine service.

The club has earned a longstanding reputation for providing food of the highest standards. Carefully selected professional chefs look after all club catering for members and societies, plus any special occasions arranged for members or for visitor groups. The clubhouse provides formal dining in the galleried main dining room together with informal eating in the orangery, or in summer on the terrace overlooking the practice putting green, with fine views across the first and 18th holes.

Dining Room

Our beautiful Dining Room has a vaulted ceiling with oak beams, and can accommodate up to 80 diners when seated.

Lounge

Whichever way you look at it, the lounge is at the very centre of the clubhouse. It houses the main bar, the main stairs and a large seating area.

It is the place where members formally meet and greet all who visit the club. It is a room which joins to every other, either directly or as a passageway. No architect would ever design a lounge like this, it has just happened over the years.

Of all the rooms at the clubhouse, it is the one that members favour and, should you need an answer to the question, its camaraderie would tell you what West Sussex is all about.

Orangery

Opened in June 2019, the Orangery is the newest addition to the clubhouse.

It occupies a much larger footprint for casual seating and dining than the conservatory it replaced. The decor of the interior is modern but  sufficiently restrained to blend with the updated main lounge and bar areas alongside.

The exterior of the Orangery incorporates some of the Arts & Crafts architectural style of the original clubhouse.

Its construction prompted a much overdue review of our heritage with the result that throughout the clubhouse, we now show much of the best we have to offer.

Members’ Room

The Members’ Room at West Sussex Golf Club offers a warm and welcoming retreat for members to relax after a round. With its classic décor and soft furnishings, the space exudes understated elegance, echoing the club’s rich heritage. Large windows bathe the room in natural light, offering peaceful views across the surrounding heathland. Whether it’s sinking into a comfortable armchair or enjoying a drink by the fire, the Members’ Room is designed for comfort and quiet conversation.

More than just a lounge, the Members’ Room is a hub of camaraderie where stories are shared and rounds relived. It’s here that friendly rivalries are revisited, putts are debated, and the spirit of the game is kept alive. The atmosphere is always congenial – whether among lifelong members or new faces welcomed into the fold. It’s a space that reflects the essence of West Sussex Golf Club: timeless, sociable, and rooted in the shared love of golf.

Terrace

Re-opened July 2019 alongside the Orangery, the terrace has an enviable position at the club. It is close to the old front entrance, with easy access to the bar for ordering drinks or food.

It is also very easy to reach from the eighteenth green once the round completes, so a thirst quencher can be drunk or ordered directly en route to the clubhouse.

Once seated, served and thoroughly relaxed, views of the two practice putting greens nearby, drives from the forward first tees and the vistas down the first and up the eighteenth add to the pleasure.

Though north-west facing, the terrace gets any sunshine almost all day.
