Group Golf at West Sussex
West Sussex offers a memorable setting for society and corporate golf, with one of the most admired heathland courses in the British Isles, a warm clubhouse welcome and the sort of brisk, traditional golf that gives a day here its own particular rhythm.
Often known simply as Pulborough, the course was designed by Guy Campbell, Cecil Hutchison and Stafford Hotchkin, and opened in 1931. Playing to a par 68 and measuring 6,333 yards from the back markers, it is framed by heather, pine and beautifully natural ground. The card may look modest, but the long par 3s and 4s, firm running turf and heather-lined carries provide a fine test.
Group golf at West Sussex is centred around two-ball and foursomes play. It is part of the club’s character, keeps the pace crisp, and gives societies the chance to enjoy the game in the same classic format found at many of Britain’s great traditional clubs.
Format & Pace of Play
At West Sussex, we pride ourselves on brisk pace of play. Societies should expect a round to move comfortably and are asked to embrace the two-ball and foursomes format that is central to the club’s golfing culture.
Societies must play from the tee of the day unless otherwise arranged with the secretary. The back markers are tougher than they look, with the course’s heather, carries and long holes making scoring a genuine challenge.
Visitors are required to hold a club handicap and may be asked to provide a handicap certificate. Society organisers are asked to ensure this requirement can be met by all players.
Dining & Clubhouse
The clubhouse offers an excellent selection of food and drink, with prompt and polite service from our front of house team. Breakfast is informal and often taken in the Orangery, with views out across the heathland.
Lunch can be tailored to the tone of the day, from a buffet to a traditional carvery. Full menu options are available on request, and we will be happy to discuss the most suitable arrangements for your group.
Tea and cake can also be arranged after golf, making it easy to round off the day in the clubhouse before departure.
